Double Page Spread

ACTOR/MODEL LIST,Costume List, Prop List

Actors/Models I will use ismy Friend Danny Swift who is featured on my front cover and my contents page.
I will also use my friend Daniel Ryan who is featured on my double page spread.

I took my pictures I am useing for my magazine on the 12th of march. The location of the shoot is in my friends band room during a weekend. Danny had two change of clothes one for the front cover and contents page and one for the double page spread. On the front cover I have changed the front cover so it is black and white, all of my other pictures are normal. I told Danny and Daniel to wear there trendiest clothes but not to look to professional as I took the male gaze into concideration. I also told Daniel to bring in his sunglasses to look cool and safisticated.

The Costume List consisted of:
Sunglasses
Skinny Jeans
Denim Top
Black and white stripey top
Sunglasses
Check T shirt

I also needed a few props to make the photos look organic such as:

Drum set
Drum sticks
Microphone
Microphone stand
Guitar

Venue Release Form

I used this venue release form to gain proof that I had permission to take my pictures in this particular place and also that I had permission to be out of class to be taking pictures if another member of staff asked me.

Mock Shots for college magazine

I didn't use these photos because they either came out blurry of the light was not good on them.
This was going to be my first choice key image on my front cover, but after taking more pictures I am going to go another direction.

Analysis of 3 Music Magazines

Double Page Spread Mock Up

Contents Page Mock Up

Risk Assessment Form

I uses these risk assesment formes because I wanted to make sure that I was in control of everything in participation of taking my pictures. I wasnted to make sure the actors I used felt safe and where aware of the places we were going to taking the shots and felt comfortable with that by getting their signature. I also pin pointed a number of potential hazards that could come up and what I could do to prevent that or work around it.

I happened to catch up with Danny Swift on one of his days off touring with his band The Dark Side of Scotland. The Atmosphere was tense and I was eager to understand what goes through the head of one of the Newest Young Rock stars in the world. Daniel Swift sat down in front of me wearing nothing but a pair of sandals with white socks, jeans and a baggy vest, a typical rock star wardrobe.

Code: "So how’s the Tour going?
Daniel Swift:: "Alright Like, me and the boys are having a laugh and enjoying playing our music
for our fans, That’s the only reason we do it, because we love our fans, if there was no fans there would be no Dark side of Scotland.

C: "When you get a moment away from your
fans and touring what do you do in you in your spare time?"DS: "I usually spend my time doing pointless interviews, with all the same questions getting asked. But when I have time to myself I watch Movies and Play the Xbox, I mean people forget I am only 18 I do like to just have a normal day in playing Fifa.

C: "What is your favourite movie?"
DS: Erm, that’s a tough one, either Anchorman or Step Brothers, I like Will Ferrell."

C: "Growing up in Liverpool, a city which holds a great music history, did you always have an interest in Rock music?
DS: "Yes definitely, who didn’t want to be a rock star as a kid, The Money
, The Girls and the cars have always been an interest for me."

C: You mentioned you don’t like getting asked the same questions over and over again. So we at Code Magazine like to mix it up a bit. What is your favourite cartoon?
DS: "Ohhh tough one, probably Family Guy or South Park, Probably Family Guy though because I can relate to Brian a lot because he loves a drink or two and he has a way with words just like me.

C: The Band has had massive success in the UK and in the US with two number one hits and a number one album? How proud are you of your and The Cures successes this year?
DS: "Me and the boys have never gave up on out dream and it has finally paid off. I always used to get told by my teachers that I should focus on my work and
give up Music. I guess they feel pretty silly now."

C: Finally Before you leave is it true that that you once said that you can be as big as The Beatles?"
DS: Yeah Why Not? I mean I bet you if you ask Paul McCartney if he thought The Beatles were going to be as big as they were he would have said no.
C: How have you reacted to your new rock star lifestyle has it been quite dramatic?
DS: Well I have came quite a long way from playing in small local pubs in Liverpool to Touring the World and having a treble platinum record! But Its been fun and Me and the band want to progress and go the next stage and do something bigger.

C: What has been the biggest change for you inarticulately in the last 12 months?
DS: I would have to say my sex life has taken a dramatic increase, It gets a bit boring on the road sometimes so me and the boys are always looking for people to keep us entertained!

After just spending just spending half an hour with young Daniel I realised he is a very enthusiastic young man and is very optimistic about his future career....As he should be!

These are the magazine fonts that I have experimented with, using a different variety of effects using Adobe Photoshop CS5. Starting off simple, I simply changed the colour to a solid green.

Adobe Photoshop allowed me to explore the blending options of the second font, I added a gradient overlay with a red radial style. I also added an outer glow for a dark shadow and an inner glow to add a very light white outline to the font. I applied the same effects to the second font, except I changed the colour to blue and changed the gradient overlay style to Linear. The final font allowed me to experiment fully with the blending options, resulting in a more advanced version than the other three fonts.

After reviewing the different results I have managed to design using Photoshop, I will most likely use proportions from each one and merge them together, in order to sustain a simple font that will still look professional when used on my music magazine front cover.

Mock up of Front Cover

My Questionnaire results!

These results show me what music magazine is most popular and where most people go to get them and what form of advertising is best. By finding out this information I have been informed that Rock magazines are the most popular such as Kerrang and Rolling stone. Therefore I these results have came back positive and now I am sure that my derision to make a rock magazine is a good decision.

Analasis of A double page spread

I am going to be analysing another double page spread featured in Q magazine. They have used a very simplistic style of righting. Unlike the other Q magazine double spread I have recently posted the copy is in larger columns and the register is written in a more formal and creative way. The copy is not an interview it is a story telling the reader of the day to day life of Florence Welch. The key image shows a close up of Florence Welch this photo seems to be professionally taken, and that she had to pose for this, This photo is more then likely been airbrushed. The photograph needs to make Florence look as acceptable to the male gaze as possible. In this double page the drop capital and the lead have been joined to start the copy off. There is also a drop capital starting off the last paragraph rounding off the article.
